Pet doors can serve a variety of purposes. Of course, they can let your pet outside to do their business and get necessary exercise. But they can also be installed within a home to allow the pet access to other rooms that have closed doors, such as bedrooms.
Doors are easy to install and the return from your investment can be measured in increased ease for you, greater independence for your pet and happiness for all.
Doors can also be selective, if sized correctly. A smaller size may let one pet through while denying access to another. This is a way to selectively grant access to a bedroom, for instance.
Major benefits from installing a door:
- Fewer “accidents” to clean up
- Less whining and scratching
- Greater freedom and exercise
- Very helpful for older dogs who cannot “hold it” as long
- Greater pet control within your home with less hassle. How often do you enter a bedroom, close the door, only to have your best friend start scratching and whining to be let in too!
Common areas to install doors include:
- Back doors to yard
- Interior door to garage
- Doors to decks
- Laundry room
Every door comes with a training tool to help your pet get accustomed with their new door. Our custom tool props the door open at varying degrees during training. So, the door stays open, allowing your pet to become accustomed to the new weight on its back.
Carlson’s unique training tool really helps your pet be comfortable with using the door.
Measuring your pet for your new door is both easy and important. You’ll need to confirm both the pet’s width and height.
WIDTH: One inch wider than the midsection (widest part) of your cat or dog.
HEIGHT: We are not measuring the entire height of your pet! Remember, your pet will lower their head to enter the door to the level of their shoulders, so that’s where we measure. They will also lift their legs. Measure from the top of the shoulders to the bottom of your pet’s chest, just behind the front legs.
If you’re in doubt about whether the size will work for your pet, create a cardboard model and see how your pet fits when going through.
